And Still We Rise: Race, Culture and Visual Conversations<\/i>, presented by Orlando Health, is curated by Carolyn Mazloomi, Ph.D. Mazloomi created the exhibition to showcase a diverse range of fiber art techniques combined with our rich American history. Artist, Valarie Pratt Poitier)<\/i><\/p>\n The beautifully hand crafted quilts, \u00a0created by an international group of artists from the Women of Color Quilters Network<\/a>, narrates the history of the African American experience, capturing the stories of freedom\u2019s heroes, ranging from Frederick Douglass to Thurgood Marshall to the first African American President. Through the accessibility of their colors, patterns, symbols and style, these quilts reveal stories that enable conversations about sensitive topics from our history, creating open conversation of racial reconciliation in America. The exhibit runs through May 3, 2015.<\/p>\n About the <\/b>Orange<\/b> <\/b>County<\/b> <\/b>Regional<\/b> <\/b>History<\/b> <\/b>Center<\/b><\/p>\n Mission: We honor the past, explore the present, to shape the future.<\/i><\/p>\n The OrangeCountyRegionalHistoryCenter, a Smithsonian Institution affiliate and American Alliance of Museums member, is one of the state\u2019s preeminent cultural institutions. The HistoryCenter includes a history museum in a renovated 1927 courthouse, the collection of the Historical Society of Central Florida, the Joseph L. Brechner Research Library, the Emporium Museum Store, and Heritage Square park. The museum is accredited by the American Association of Museums and has advanced its global mission to honor the past, explore the present, and shape the future through wide-ranging programs, permanent and traveling exhibits, and limited-run exhibitions from other prestigious institutions.<\/p>\n Our Smart.
